Dr. Reese is an internationally known, award winning author, lecturer, and consultant in the
specialty areas of stress management, leadership, violence, motivation, criminal profiling, and
related topics. He served as a platoon leader in Vietnam earning the Vietnamese Police
Distinguished Service Cross and the U.S. Bronze Star Medal. He retired from the FBI after serving
25 years as a Supervisory Special Agent. He served as Assistant Unit Chief of the FBI’s Behavioral
Science Unit (Silence of the Lambs) and as adjunct faculty in criminology and psychology with the
University of Virginia for 18 years. Dr. Reese was one of the founders of the National Center for
the Analysis of Violent Crime and was an original FBI criminal personality profiler.
Dr. Reese established the stress program in the FBI as well as the Employee Assistance Program
and the Chaplains’ Program. He published seven books while in the FBI. Dr. Reese has devoted
his professional life to the prediction, detection, and prevention of violence, coping with change
and adversity, and stress management. He is considered an expert in the areas of stress and
workplace violence and has been listed in the National Registry of Experts and the Yearbook of
Authorities, Experts, and Spokespersons.
Dr. Reese has addressed representatives of more than 350 Fortune 500 companies, as well as the
National Football League. He has provided expert testimony before the United States Congress
on stress and lectured before President George Bush’s Council on Integrity and Efficiency. He has
been at Ground Zero providing stress-decompression presentations to Task Force One at the
World Trade Center and continues consulting with authorities there.
Dr. Reese consults with faculty members of Johns Hopkins University, The Harvard Associates in
Criminal Justice, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and others. He is
president of James T. Reese and Associates, a Virginia based international behavioral sciences
and management consulting firm. He is a Board Certified Expert in Forensic Traumatology,
Traumatic Stress, School Crisis Response, Emergency Crisis Response, Domestic Violence, and
Stress Management. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, a
member of their Board of Scientific and Professional Advisors and one of fewer than fifty
diplomats of the Society for Police and Criminal.
He continues to provide hundreds of lectures, keynotes, seminars, and workshops each year in
private and public sectors. He is a recipient of the Speakers’ Medal from the World Congress on
Stress, Trauma, and Coping. His teachings and keynote addresses are recognized among the
finest in the world. Weaving his powerful anecdotes of 25 years of experience as an FBI “Mind
Hunter”, together with 10 years as CEO of James T. Reese and Associates, Dr. Reese works
tirelessly to share what he has taught to tens of thousands of listeners worldwide
