Keynote Speakers

Rob McCusker

Transnational Crime Consultant
Former Director of the Centre for Fraud and Financial Crime, Teesside University

Rob McCusker is the former Director of the Centre for Fraud and Financial Crime at Teesside University in the U.K. and is currently a Visiting Professor at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM) in Malaysia and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University in Australia.

Formerly, McCusker was the Transnational Crime Analyst at the Australian Institute of Criminology, a designated expert in economic crime and money laundering at the 2005, 2010 and 2015 UN Congresses on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. He is a designated expert in terrorist finance for NATO’s Centre of Excellence-Defence Against Terrorism (COE-DAT), an Academic Expert for the European Parliament on foreign affairs, security and defence.

In addition, McCusker has provided policy advice to government departments in the U.K., U.S., Thailand, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Europe, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Indonesia. McCusker has also provided anti-corruption and international security training to delegates from Nigeria, PRC, Gambia, Somalia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Singapore and Denmark. He is also the consultant to, and co-author of, the OECD’s forthcoming study on Criminal Economies and Illicit Financial Flows in West Africa for which he advised on illicit resource extraction and money laundering, border control issues and predatory multi-national enterprises.

Dr. Philipp Klarmann

VP - Head of Investigations and Anti-Corruption

Dr. Philipp Klarmann is head of investigations and anti-corruption at SAP SE, a multi-national enterprise software company headquartered in Walldorf, Germany.

He is a trained employment lawyer who has worked in multiple corporate functions including internal audit and the compliance office of SAP.

In the past years, he worked in many cross-border fraud and corruption investigations and has spoken at professional conferences about big data, the processes and structures to tackle cross-border cases, and the setup of effective compliance investigations.

Bastian Obermayer

Investigative Journalist, Panama Papers Recipient, 2017 Pulitzer Prize Winner
Süddeutsche Zeitung

Bastian Obermayer works as deputy head of the investigative unit of the Munich-based Süddeutsche Zeitung.

He is the reporter who received the Panama Papers from an anonymous source. Obermayer is also author of several books, among them the best-selling account of the Panama Papers investigation: The Panama Papers: Breaking the Story of How the Rich and Powerful Hide Their Money.

He has received numerous honors for his work, including the 2017 Pulitzer Prize; the George Polk Award; the Barlett & Steele Award; and several German awards, including the Henri-Nannen-Preis, Theodor-Wolff-Preis, Helmut-Schmidt-Preis, Waechterpreis, Deutscher Reporterpreis and Otto-Brenner-Preis.

Dr. Jessica Barker

Cybersecurity Expert, Co-founder

Dr. Jessica Barker is a leader in the human nature of cybersecurity. She is one of the top 20 women of influence in cybersecurity in the U.K.

Barker’s work surrounds the psychology and sociology of cybersecurity, particularly cybersecurity threats, social engineering, how to effectively communicate cybersecurity messages, the psychology of fear and cybersecurity, and the language of cybersecurity. Her specialisms span cyber security awareness, behavior and culture.

Barker is passionate about encouraging young people to become more engaged with cybersecurity, working with TeenTech and the U.K.’s Cyber Security Challenge.

Bruce Dorris, J.D., CFE, CPA, CVA

President and CEO

Bruce Dorris is the Vice President and Program Director for the ACFE and is an advisory member to the ACFE Board of Regents. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Louisiana State University, Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1993, and is licensed to practice law in state and federal courts in Texas and Louisiana.

Following a judicial clerkship after law school, Dorris was commissioned an Assistant District Attorney for the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office in Shreveport, Louisiana. He created and was the Director of its Financial Crimes Screening Section.

Dorris is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant and practiced primarily in business valuation and litigation support. He was an Adjunct Instructor in the Accounting and Business Law Department of Louisiana State University in Shreveport and has taught with the Becker CPA Review Program.

He formerly served on the Board of Directors with the National White Collar Crime Center, and was the Vice Chairman of its Audit Committee. He is a Past President of the Louisiana District Attorneys’ Association ADA Section, and has worked in the Louisiana House of Representatives Fiscal Division. He has testified numerous times before legislative committees and was a frequent lecturer with prosecutor and accountant training associations.

Dorris is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Texas State Bar Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.

Dr. Veit Buetterlin, CFE, CPFAcct

Director of Investigations, Disputes and Risk

Veit Buetterlin is a director with AlixPartners based in Germany. He supports companies and authorities as a forensic expert and compliance advisor. He has engaged in investigations in 19 countries worldwide and has held key roles in investigations related to some of Europe’s biggest financial crime cases. He also acted as a compliance gatekeeper when heading different finance departments in various industries.

Buetterlin holds a doctoral degree in economics (Dr.rer.pol) and researched at the University of Tübingen, Harvard University and the University of Heidelberg. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Professional Forensic Accountant. He is an Arthur D. Little star case laureate as well as an alumni and member of the selection committee of the German National Academic Association.

Meghavi Daiya, CFE, CA

Meghavi Daiya is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Chartered Accountant from India. She has 11 years of experience in internal controls, enterprise risk management, statutory auditing, compliance, forensic investigation and anti-fraud governance. Daiya has served on the governance risk and assurance team at KPMG and is currently working with the risk and control compliance team at A.P.Møller Maersk, Denmark.

Tim Harvey, CFE

Tim Harvey is a fraud consultant with experience investigating fraud in both the private and public sectors. He joined the Metropolitan Police in 1979 and was a career detective, spending a third of his service at New Scotland Yard’s Fraud Squad and as the Detective Superintendent of the Economic Crime Department, he managed more than 120 investigators. He joined the City of London Police when they obtained government lead status for fraud in 2004. After retiring from the force he became the Director of U.K. Operations for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners as well as a Justice of the Peace on the bench of Northamptonshire Magistrates Court.

Stephen Hill, Ph.D., MLPI, CIIP

Managing Director

Dr. Stephen Hill is a Trustee Director of the Fraud Advisory Panel and chairs its Cybercrime Interest Group.

Hill spent many years working for a top firm of chartered accountants heading the Fraud and Forensic Group, leading an expert body advising clients on prevention, detection and recovery of fraudulent assets, working closely with organisations in both the public and private sector.

He has developed and delivered a series of counter fraud and investigation courses to clients both in the U.K. and overseas including the National Crime Agency, Charity Commission, CIFAS, police forces both in the U.K. and overseas and private sector corporations.

With an appointment as a Volunteer to the City of London Police Economic Crime Directive, Hill assists fraud investigators with the aid of online investigation techniques and speaks at schools on the dangers of the internet in line with his role as a safeguarding and child protection governor at his local primary school.

Dr. Hill sits on the ACFE U.K. Chapter committee and is an honourable member of the London Fraud Forum.

Audrey Milesi, CFE, ACCA, ACAMS

Flying CFO

Originally from France, Audrey Milesi has lived and worked in Austria, Germany and London before moving to Switzerland 10 years ago. She started her career in external audit and moved to transaction services in the Big 4.

In the industry, she led global financial compliance at the global level for Syngenta and at the European level at eBay. In 2017, she started her own consultancy, Flying CFO, specialising in internal controls and assistance in fraud cases.

Milesi holds a master’s degree in commerce and international affairs and a master’s in German. She is a Fellow ACCA, Anti-Money-Laundering Specialist (ACAMS) and Certified Fraud Examiner.

Elif Morgenroth

Elif Morgenroth is an executive consultant working at CGI German Ltd. Morgenroth works to establish and augment CGI’s operational and consultancy services around financial crime topics worldwide.

She is a lawyer (M.Sc.) and studied with a specialisation in penal law in Munich, Mannheim, and the U.S./Canada. Morgenroth has broad expertise in preventing financial crime, and her particular fields of interests are combatting fraud, internal investigations, interviewing fraudsters and forensics.

Malaika Nolde, LL.M., CFE

Lawyer and Privacy Auditor

Malaika Nolde has worked as a lawyer in Düsseldorf, Germany, since 2008. She specialises in criminal compliance.

Since her postgraduate studies in legal informatics in 2002 and following years at the Department for Information Law at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law, her focus is on the combination of corporate criminal law with information law and data protection.

She is also a Specialist Lawyer for Criminal Law, Certified Data Protection Auditor (TÜV), and a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Florian Seiferlein

Vice President of Investigations, Disputes and Risk

Florian Seiferlein is a vice president with AlixPartners based in Germany. He supports companies and authorities as a forensic data expert and compliance advisor. He had key roles on investigations in Europe and Africa. He has developed, implemented and overseen the respective analytical programs, including analysing anti-money laundering (AML) programs, assessing potential fraud and corruption, and validating control environments.

Seiferlein holds a master of science in business engineering with a focus on finance from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Gerard M. Zack, CFE, CCEP, CIA

Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics

Gerry Zack is the incoming CEO of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) and Health Care Compliance Association, a position he assumed in November 2017 after more than 30 years of experience providing preventive, detective and investigative services involving fraud, corruption and diverse compliance matters. He has worked with businesses of all sizes and in many industries, nonprofit organizations and government agencies globally. Prior to joining SCCE and HCCA, Zack was in the global forensics practice of BDO. He founded his own fraud and compliance risk advisory and forensic accounting firm in 1990 and operated that practice for 20 years. Before that, he was an audit manager with an international accounting firm. Along the way, he served for two years as chief operating and compliance officer for an international scientific organisation.

For two years, Zack was the author of “The ACFE Cookbook,” a column in Fraud Magazine devoted to financial statement fraud cases, and has authored three books on fraud: Financial Statement Fraud: Strategies for Detection and Investigation (2013), Fair Value Accounting Fraud: New Global Risks and Detection Techniques (2009), and Fraud and Abuse in Nonprofit Organizations: A Guide to Prevention and Detection (2003). He is also the principal author of the ACFE seminar Uncovering Fraud with Financial and Ratio Analysis, and he has contributed to several other ACFE course manuals.
